Meet Jocelyn, Whose Daughter Teaches Her Patience

We have already presented you Jocelyn, one of our first Strategic Volunteers, who is an experienced HR specialist and who is currently coaching MBA students at Hochschule Luzern as a step towards going back to work after a break. And here is Jocelyn as a loving mother and wife!

My family… I married Michael four years ago. I met him 15 years ago in Mexico City. He has been my support and has encouraged me to go back to work after my parental leave. Three years ago my daughter Sophie was born, she has been my teacher and inspiration and I have the most incredible moments playing with her in the parks, swimming or just crazy dancing in our living room.

My day normally looks like this: I wake up at 6:30 and meditate, well not every day but I try. Then I wake up my daughter, prepare breakfast and run to the daycare where she goes three times per day. In this “free time” I work in my internship or I go to University, do homework, read, etc. At 12, I have to pick up my daughter from the daycare, prepare lunch and afterwards play with my daughter until dinner time. At 7:00, Michael comes home and we have dinner together. We talk about our day and then we prepare ourselves to go to bed.

Having kids and being a professional… Is not easy and requires lots of planning ahead and always being prepared for the unexpected. For me is important that I have the support of my husband and his family when the unexpected happens. It takes a lot of stress from me knowing that I can rely on my partner.

I miss my job because… I miss having a job where I contribute to a goal, where I can work with interesting people and learn from them. I also miss business trips and being in contact with people from other cultures. Being a mom, taught me skills which could be useful in my job:

Being a mom taught me to be patient.. very patient.. negotiating skills and problem solving.
