What is Strategic Volunteer Engagement?
Volunteering strategically means aligning the skills you have or want to develop with your volunteer job and with your desired career objectives. While a volunteer shares his/her time and skillsset, the volunteer can gain relevant work experience, develop critical career skills, improve the German language skills and build a network that could later support a job search.
During its pilot phase from 2016-2017, SIVO’s project will help women who have taken a career break and are interested in going back to work to find a strategic volunteer position within a non-profit organisation.
Explaining a career gap on a résumé is a difficult challenge women face. This compounded with a lack of strong professional networks, language barriers, and outdated skillssets can make re-entering the workforce nearly impossible. So how can women prepare for returning to work after taking a career break to care for children or ageing parents?
Strategic volunteering offers women an opportunity to rebuild their professional confidence, to prove their worth and rebuild their professional credibility.
SIVO has successfully placed seven candidates in two organisations. If you are interested in participating in this project, contact us.
