Meet Jocelyn, Our Strategic Volunteer at HSLU

Who is Jocelyn?
Hello! My name is Jocelyn Ruiz-Schmidle. I am an HR professional with over 8 years of experience. I have worked for different companies in Mexico, Germany and India. I moved to Switzerland 4 years ago, got married and took a career break to raise my daughter, Sophie. Meanwhile, I have done volunteer work for my community, improved my German language skills and I have been updating myself with the latest business developments doing a Diploma at the University of St.Gallen (HSG).

Why did you apply for a Strategic Volunteering position?
After my career break in a new country I found myself without a professional network that could help me get an interesting job. Therefore, I decided to build up my network and through this search I found SIVO. Evelin, the president of the organization, suggest to me to do a Strategic Volunteering at Hochschule Luzern. I found this a great idea because I would not only be building my professional network but also applying my years of professional experience in training and development.

What will your responsibilities as Support Coach be?
At the university, I will have different responsibilities. I am a support Coach for a module that is called Consulting SMEs. I will also support trainers on different seminars, one being the Management Simulation Game and will also be assisting in the logistics of student events and seminars. But, I must say that is still very open as to what I can contribute at the university.

What do you expect to get from this experience?
Apart from the professional network that I am already building, I will for sure gain more insight to the Swiss working culture and in specific to the know-how of delivering trainings, seminars and lectures in Switzerland.
